Overview
Lumie is a leading UK brand in light therapy technology, known for wake up lights and SAD lamps that support sleep, mood and circadian rhythm. I was contracted by Mugo to contribute Shopifydevelopment and section builds within the Shopify theme.
My focus was on developing modular and scalable components using Shopify Liquid and vanilla ES6 JavaScript, improving product page UX, enhancing filtering, navigation and cart behaviour and ensuring a smooth customer journey. The work formed part of a larger site build by Mugo, and my contributions supported the evolution of the theme as it continued to scale.

Objectives
- Deliver a modular and flexible Shopify theme
- Build reusable Liquid sections for PDP, PLP and content areas
- Enhance variant behaviour and product comparison UX
- Improve navigation, filtering, mobile usability and search
- Strengthen conversion experience through cart and upsell features
- Implement localisation patterns for international customers using Shopify Markets
- Contribute to Quality Assurance and refinement for a polished launch

Product Page Development
I worked on core product page components, improving structure, clarity and decision making for customers browsing high consideration items.
Key contributions included:
- Custom product page layouts and content structure
- Variant selector with media gallery integration
- Variant state in URL for sharing and SEO
- Product upsell and complimentary product sections
- SAD product logic based on product attributes
- Product gallery interactions and image presentation
These elements helped users compare products more easily and reduced cognitive load during evaluation.

Collections and Filtering
Lumie sells multiple product types, accessories and bundles. I developed components that improved browsing and product discovery.
Deliverables included:
- Advanced collection filters for mobile and desktop using Shopify's Search & Discovery app and section rendering API
- Recently viewed components
These features increased visibility and helped users move from research into purchase paths more quickly.

Navigation and Search
To support product discovery I implemented key navigation elements including:
- Mega menu
- Mobile menu
- Predictive search
- Search modal with improved scrolling and suggested products
- UI refinements to overlays and stacking contexts
The result was a more guided route into the catalogue, particularly for mobile users.

Cart and Conversion
Shopping cart UX has a direct impact on conversion rate and AOV. My involvement covered:
- Cart drawer improvements and QA
- Persistent gift message field
- Cart discount behaviour
- Complimentary product logic
These improvements reduced friction points and helped streamline the purchase journey.

- Translation support within Liquid templates using Shopify's Translation & Adapt app
- Styling consistency across regions
This laid the groundwork for global growth.

Outcome
The project resulted in a scalable Shopify theme that supports Lumie across product discovery, comparison and checkout. My work improved UX across product pages, collections, navigation and cart interaction without altering the overall ownership of the build.
